Flip Cup

Flip Cup is one of the most popular drinking games out there, because it’s simple, gets you incredibly drunk, and involves a lot of people at once. Flip Cup is often played as a tournament, and there is also a great variation called Survivor Flip Cup, explained below.

I have pasted Wikipedia’s rules below, as well as a video explaining the game:

Equipment

  • 1 table
  • 1 cup for each player
  • beer

Setup

Two teams stand on opposite sides of a table, facing one another. As there are equal players on each side, the players directly facing each other are opponents. In front of each teammate is a Solo cup filled with a standard amount of beer. Generally, the first line inside a Solo cup is used as a marker.

Competition

At the start of the race, the first member of each team drinks his or her beverage. When finished, the cup is placed face up at the edge of the table, and the player who drank it attempts to flip the cup until it rests face down on the table. If he or she is not successful on the first try, the cup must be reset and re-flipped. Only after the first teammate is done flipping the cup successfully, can the next person proceed. Whichever team finishes drinking and flipping all its cups first is the winner.

Beer Games:How To Play Beer Games: Flip Cup

Survivor Flip Cup

Survivor Flip Cup takes Flip Cup to a new level! Just like the TV show Survivor, this game whittles down the competition from an initial group of 6 – 20 people, until there is only one (very drunk) winner.

Play begins as in a normal game of Flip Cup, with two equal-numbered teams (similar to the “tribes” on Survivor).

However, when a team loses a round, they must VOTE one of their own members off of the team. They are now one player down, but they must continue to drink the same number of cups of beer as their team did when the game began. One player on the team must volunteer to drink the extra cups. As a team loses more and more rounds, they will vote more players off the team, and have more extra cups to drink.

The game continues until either team is down to ONE PERSON, who must drink — and then flip — sometimes as many as 8 cups of beer per round. If the one remaining person on a team loses and there is more than one person on the competing team, then the remaining players will be divided in half into two more teams. The game will continue with the same number of beer cups.

Eventually the game comes down to a one person vs. one person show-down. Whoever wins this round is declared the SOLE SURVIVOR!

Beer Pong

Posted on 05 February 2009 by Pete Berg

The granddaddy of them all. Beer Pong, or “Beirut” was supposedly started in Beirut, Lebanon in the 1980s, and spread like wildfire. Now it’s played at every college campus in America, at just about every party. All you need are some plastic cups and ping pong balls. And beer. Lots and lots of beer.

Other Drinking Games

Beer Pong is a diabolically simple, but also endlessly complicated game, and there are hundreds of different versions.

There are also hundreds of instruction sheets online explaining how the game is played. I see no sense in re-inventing the wheel. Here is one great explanation, and here is another. Read them.

And since this is a video site, here’s a video of some douchey guy explaining how to play beer pong as well:

Got it now? Good.

Now let’s focus on some of the interesting beer pong house rules and twists.

Beer Pong House Rules and Twists

Rebuttal: Once one team sinks the other team’s last cup, the defeated team get a chance at a “rebuttal.” Both players shoot at the remaining cups, as many times as necessary, until they miss. If they are able to clear the rest of the other team’s cups, the game goes into a 3-cup overtime (each team sets up a three cup triangle and the game continues). This has become a standard rule with the crowds I play with.

Only Bitches Blow: Only girls can blow a ball out of a cup if it is spinning around the cup before completely falling in. Guys just have to let it go in. Yeah, it’s sexist.

The Big Mac Rule: If a player is able to bounce their ball off a wall (that is distantly separated from the table) and into one of the other team’s cups, they have to go to the nearest McDonald’s and buy the team Big Macs.

Bounces Count Twice: If a player can bounce a ball on the table and get it into a cup, the other team must drink two cups.

Overthrows Count as a Cup: If a player throws a ball past the edge of the table, their team loses a cup. This helps make the games go much faster.

Naked Lap: If a team gets shut out and doesn’t make a single cup, they must strip naked and do a one lap streak around the house where the party is being held.

If you know any other cool house rules, post them in the comments!
